The late Jim Webb was a senior Eastern Airlines captain. He had been flying since age 13, when he learned to fly with a barnstormer. For 15 years he worked as an Eastern Airlines flight instructor and check pilot. During that time, he trained almost 500 pilots, with no failures and above-average results. Webb also conducted rating rides, proficiency checks, and simulator instruction and check-ins. During World War II he was a B-24 pilot in the Central Pacific, flying 33 missions and earning two Distinguished Flying Crosses and four Air Medals. After the war, Webb flew a variety of charter and corporate aircraft before joining Eastern. He logged more than 35,000 hours in the cockpit.
